Hemp has been used for textiles for thousands of years, long before cotton became the default. We blend it with organic cotton at 20% because that's the ratio where you get all the benefits of hemp without losing the softness people expect from a sheet. Why hemp?
Softer with use
Cotton breaks down over time. Hemp fiber breaks in. After ten washes, your sheets feel like the ones at the hotel you remember. After fifty, they feel better.
Cooler at night
Hemp is more breathable than cotton and naturally moisture-wicking. The blend pulls heat and humidity away from your skin instead of holding it against you.
Grown right
Hemp grows in roughly a third the water cotton needs, without pesticides, and replenishes the soil it grows in. The most sustainable fiber you can put on a bed.

Every Bast & Co sheet is made by a family-run workshop in New Brunswick that has been sewing natural-fiber bedding by hand for four decades. Nothing is mass-produced. Nothing sits in a warehouse waiting to be sold. When you order, your set gets cut from the bolt and stitched together, usually within a week.
A note from the founder
I started Bast & Co because the bedding industry sells synthetic blends, mystery fibers, and "eco-friendly" marketing on top of fabric that falls apart after a year. Hemp is the oldest answer to a problem no one is solving. I built this brand around one product, made one way, in one place, and I'd rather get that right than chase the next category.
